Surgo Construction is delighted to announce that a recently completed project for client, Sacred Heart Catholic school in Fenham, has scooped an award in the Lord Mayor’s Design Awards 2019.

The Lord Mayor’s Design Awards is a biennial awards ceremony which aims to celebrate and publicise the best in architecture and environmental design. Awards are given to schemes which make an outstanding contribution to the quality and appearance of the local environment.

The Rose Auditorium won the small-scale development, with Surgo acting as the main contractor alongside MawsonKerr Architects.

The judging panel said that the simple, elegant, and functional space throughout the auditorium impressed them and that they felt it was positive to see a school focusing on the arts. In addition to a high-class performance space, the new design allowed for a dedicated staff area to be created below the auditorium, the quality of which was appreciated by the judges.

Martin Blight, director at Surgo said:

“We are thrilled to receive this prestigious award and I’m proud of the hard work and dedication from the team at Surgo that has gone into making this auditorium a great place for pupils to learn and experience the arts.

“I believe that our craftsmanship, coupled with the innovative design by MawsonKerr Architects, have been key factors in winning this award.”
