COLLEGE STUDENTS GET A GLIMPSE OF SITE LIFE WITH SURGO

Because we appreciate the value and importance of employer engagement, we were pleased to support Northumberland College students recently by helping to broaden their experience of what to expect on a construction site, by facilitating a site visit to Stannington where we are building 34 new homes for Willow Homes.

Ten students came along with their work placement officer from the college, John Johnson.  Three students were studying for a Diploma in Plastering, Level 1 and the remaining seven were on the Diploma in Building Craft Level 1 course.

Senior site manager, Paul Graham, put them through their site induction and talked through the build programme at Stannington so they could see houses at various stages of development and understand exactly where and when their trades would fit in.

John Johnson felt the visit had been very useful for the students.  They had really enjoyed the experience and had given very positive feedback.

Paul Graham said: “We were delighted to help these young people on their career path and hope they took away a favourable impression of working on a modern building site.”
