The £6.2m transformation of a former garden centre is underway, marking the latest contract win for one of the region’s leading building contractors, Surgo Construction.

Located on Station Road, Stannington, the new homes at Nursery Gardens, as the scheme is to be called, will be developed by Northumberland-based housebuilder, Willow Homes, in partnership with Surgo Construction.

Comprising a mix of nine property types including two, three, four and five-bedroom two-storey homes with large kitchen/dining areas and four and five-bedroom homes featuring a study and cinema room to the second floor, Nursery Gardens will fulfil a demand for high quality residential development in this part of Northumberland.

With all dwellings luxuriously appointed throughout and with high specification fitted kitchens and bathrooms, the homes at Nursery Gardens have been designed to appeal to a wide range of purchasers.

Speaking about the development, Willow Homes’ representative, Bob Skelly, commented:

“We are delighted to be working with Surgo, which is one of the region’s most respected contractors with many years of house building experience to its credit.  This is an area of the county where we believe there is great demand for high quality, well-built properties because of its proximity to Newcastle city centre and more locally, to Morpeth. We are expecting strong demand for the houses at Nursery Gardens and I am confident that Surgo will do a great job for us.”

Surgo Construction’s managing director, James Walker, said:

“Residential development is a key strand of the work we undertake at Surgo.  Our vast experience of housebuilding spans the social housing sector and private residential developments such as Nursery Gardens, as well as one-off homes built directly for the home owner.

“I am very much looking forward to developing our partnership with Willow Homes and look forward to working together on Nursery Gardens and future schemes.  In the meantime, now that the adverse weather is hopefully behind us, we can get started on site.”

In a second appointment to the scheme, Willow Homes has appointed Keep Estate Agents (Keep), Whitley Bay as its selling agent. As part of the contract, Keep will have a presence on site once the marketing suite opens in a few weeks.

Surgo is currently on site in Backworth, Ponteland and Durham city centre constructing a further 82 houses, apartments and penthouses homes for clients including Ascent Homes, Northumberland Estates and Up North Group.
