SURGO APPOINTS NEW BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Surgo Construction (Surgo), one of the region’s leading building contractors, has strengthened its senior team with the announcement of a new business development manager.

Leigh Chelton, a well-known face in the North East construction sector, joins Surgo after two decades of experience working in the PR and marketing industry, with a special focus on the client-facing side of construction and the built environment.

Having already forged a professional working relationship with Surgo due to working on its business in her account director role at marketing and public relations consultancy, Clothier Lacey & Co, working closely with director, Martin Blight, Leigh will be responsible for spearheading the contractor’s business development and growth throughout the Northeast region.

Commenting on her new role, she said:  “I am delighted to join the highly experienced and well-respected team at Surgo Construction and have an opportunity to contribute towards the company’s ongoing success.

“There is a buoyancy in the north east construction sector currently, with a steady flow of opportunities coming our way. I hope that by working closely with my network of established contacts and by forging new relationships, to build on this momentum.”

Surgo director, Martin Blight, said:  “We are delighted to have Leigh join the team at Surgo. Her previous marketing experience coupled with her knowledge of both the company and the wider construction sector in the region, will be extremely beneficial in her new role and integration with the team.

Surgo has recently enjoyed a steady flow of new project wins including two prestigious schemes for Middlesbrough College, a refurbishment scheme for South Tyneside Council and a new development in the affordable housing sector, all of which are currently on site.

Blight continued:  “There is enormous scope to build on this success and further develop our presence to win new work and secure contracts now that Leigh is on board. I am sure she will be a great asset to the company.”

In Northumberland, Surgo has recently commenced work on-site for a private residential developer in Acklington to build 16 new properties and is bidding on further residential development schemes along the Northumberland coast.
