In 1986, John Young received a phone call offering him two weeks work as a joiner on a project in Ponteland.  Thirty-five years later and we are delighted to say he is still working for Surgo Construction. Having spent his formative years with the company as a joiner, John progressed to foreman level, and he is particularly proud of the work he did on two major education schemes one at Bishop Auckland College and another at Excelsior Academy, Newcastle as well as an historic project which was the restoration of Fullwell Windmill and the addition of a new build visitor centre. In 1998, he transferred his skills to take up his current role as a bonus surveyor, and it was during this time that he would work with school leavers considering an apprenticeship in construction.  This was a part of his job that he found particularly rewarding, and he clearly inspired the youngsters, as some of them joined Surgo on its apprenticeship scheme. Whilst he feels the industry has changed over the years, John still thoroughly enjoys working in construction and the company looks forward to John’s continued contribution to its ongoing success.
