Five-star luxury living for the over 70s has arrived in Gosforth, Newcastle with the recent completion of work at Kenton Lodge on behalf of one of the UK’s leading retirement home providers, McCarthy and Stone.
Once home to Trinity School, Kenton Lodge, a listed building which dates back to 1906, has undergone a total transformation, following an extensive refurbishment and the addition of modern extensions featuring a glass walk way.
Along with a grand staircase, ornate fireplaces and decorative ceilings, Kenton Lodge comprises 53 one and two-bed apartments.
This latest project to complete has created stylish retirement and assisted living accommodation with beautiful lounge and dining facilities and landscaped grounds on a par with a luxury hotel.
No stranger to working on listed buildings, Surgo was responsible for delivering the refurbishment phase, while McCarthy and Stone acted as both developer and contractor responsible for marrying the old with the new by extending the property to take full advantage of the property’s extensive grounds.
Over the past 39 years, McCarthy and Stone has built over 50,000 apartments nationwide. Speaking about working on behalf of such a market leading brand, Surgo’s director, Jeff Alexander said:
“Kenton Lodge is a beautiful building which, following its transformation by our team of highly skilled construction professionals, is perfectly suited to its new role as home to owner-occupiers over 70 who still enjoy independent living.
“The project provided us with an opportunity to demonstrate our extensive experience of working on listed buildings and along with the client, we are delighted with the end result. We hope that the new residents like it too.”
