A student accommodation building in Shieldfield valued at around £5M has been given the green light by planners and Surgo should be starting construction in the New Year.

The accommodation will contact 100 en-suite living spaces with communal areas at the lower level.

Located at the New Bridge Street/Clarence Street junction in Shieldfield, on a brownfield site where the former Max Wilson Fasteners building will be demolished to make way for construction, Surgo has been appointed via Silverstone Building Consultancy (Silverstone), acting in the capacity of employers agent for the developer, Bonham Real Estate of Leicester.

This is the third project that Surgo has undertaken for Silverstone – the first was a car show room with cafe and gym at Belmont Industrial Estate, Durham and the other was a 22,000 sqm warehouse and retailing facility for a high end fashion retailer, which was formally handed over in September 2019.

Director, Martin Blight has been involved in the student accommodation project throughout 2019. He said: “There are still some negotiations ongoing directly between Surgo, Silverstone and Bonham Real Estate to discuss the finer details, but we have made an effective start on site due to planning constraints and fully expect to get construction underway early in 2020.”

Architect for the scheme is SBA AKA Group.
