Surgo welcomes special visitors to Newbiggin project

Working on behalf of Arch Developments, Paul Graham and the team recently welcomed special visitors to officially mark topping out of a new mixed-use scheme currently on site in Newbiggin by the Sea.

The £1.3 million scheme which will feature three 1,500 sq ft retail units at ground floor level and eight, two-bedroom apartments which will be available for rent by Arch Homes, on the upper floors. To support the tourism in Newbiggin and the growth in the town’s visitor numbers, modern and accessible public toilets have also been included in the development.

Chair of Arch, Councillor Richard Wearmouth, attended site with Surgo representatives, Newbiggin Councillors, and the Town Council for a tour of the development. Due for completion in December 2017, the 9,380 sq ft three-storey building will occupy a central location on the former site of the Railway Inn and The New Dolphin pubs.

Speaking about the scheme, he said: “This is a really positive development for Newbiggin and will be great for boosting the local economy and regeneration of the town. The new local amenities will be an excellent addition for enhancing the tourism aspect of the town which is continuing to grow. I look forward to seeing the completion of this development at the end of the year.”

Following the conclusion of the guided tour, construction director Jeff Charlton added:

“The project is progressing well and when complete, should add considerably to Newbiggin’s attractiveness – both as a place to live and to visit.  The town is really starting to thrive thanks to new housing developments and investments such as this, which is great to see, and we are pleased to be able to play our part in this renaissance.”
