Construction of Dorset House, North Tyneside’s most up to date care facility has recently completed and is ready to receive its first residents.

Working on behalf of specialist care provider Gosforth-based Eothen Homes, Surgo was appointed under a design and build contract back in December 2014, to construct a specialist home for dementia suffers. Set out over three floors there are 52-ensuite bedrooms to the first and second floors and eight one-bedroom flats also located on the second floor.

Additionally, Dorset House features a range of public areas including lounges, dining areas, a ground floor coffee shop, which is open to the local community, a fully kitted-out hairdressing salon and an activity space, as well as ancillary areas.

Speaking about Dorset House, Eothen Homes’ chief executive, Jenny Hearle said:

“This new dementia facility will break new ground in terms of its design, services and features. The layout and general provision has been developed in line with the latest research and thinking into dementia care and we are excited to be the first to bring this to the North East.”

The facility, which is set in its own manicured grounds, provides residents with welcome open gardens and thanks to greenhouse facilities, the opportunity to grow their own plants and produce.

Speaking about the project, Jeff Alexander said: “We were delighted to have a second opportunity to work on behalf of Eothen Homes as the carer extends its property portfolio.  Dorset House really will raise the bar for the standard of accommodation available to those suffering from dementia in the region and we are proud to have been part of that process.”
